What’s the best treat for training your dog?

Cleoppa asked:

If you’re planning on training in a distracting environment, what’s your dog’s favorite, most motivating treat?

Do you use different levels of food depending on how distracting the environment is and how difficult the training is?

How did you decide what the best treat was? Did you experiment with your dog to find out what his favorite food was?

The woman whose place we kennel our puppy at recommended a training book that could help us. The author is Jan Fennell, and she is another modern dog whisperer. She’s written several books, but the ones the lady recommended to us are called The Dog Listener and The Practical Dog Listener.

In these books she features a type of training called Amichien bonding. I won’t go in depth on it now but here is a site describing what it is:

http://www.janfennellthedoglistener.com/about.htm

I was wondering if any of you had tried this form of training and if it worked for you? I am about to implement it with my samoyed.
To Retired: I’m not trying to get anyone to buy this book- I was just wondering how people’s experiences with this form of training were. The link was included for informational purposes. Read the whole question please.

Looking for an answer to crate training my dog?

Over the last 6 months we have been crate training our dog. The crate is the perfect size for him. Just over the last month, he has started barking almost the entire night. He has also recently started to pee a little in the back of the crate. He did fine for so long, but now it seems like a total regression. It is so hard to be happy with a dog that barks all night and pees himself. Please, does anybody have a solution?
The dog is in the other room of the house. The reason being is that allergies have arisen from other members of the household. We do take his water away 2 hours before bed and do puit him out before we go to bed. I let him out at night to pee when he first barks….but as soon as he’s back in, he starts barking again. He’s not in the crate all day, only at night. I really think it’ more of an attention thing.
