I have a 7 month shih tzu who is really smart but not obedient , i have trained him to do all the basic things like housebreak ect. but i want to teach him some tricks . Everytime i play fecth with him , he refuses to give up the ball . I would like to know some recommendations on doggy treats , i have gone to Petsmart and spent quite a bit on some brands that he has no interest in them . What are some doggy treats that my puppy will more likely love ?

I have a dog training question?

I have one adult female dog (standard poodle) and a female puppy (golden retriever) that is 5 months old. The golden has shown a few signs that she will be an alpha female and we have been working on her like crazy to keep her in lined and trained and she’s doing really well. My question is, both females like to romp and play just like any normal dog and I’ve heard that a romp can turn into a fight very easily. The golden is only puppy, but I want to know if it is okay to let them romp like normal dogs or if I should make them stop. They have never had trouble with eachother or anything and my poodle is REALLY well trained, but I’m afraid it might be teaching the puppy how to fight. She’s a smart girl and really sweet, just some pre-aggressive signs have been displayed that we are trying to weed out. If you have had experience with this and youre a trainer please help.

Why does talking in a high pitched voice help with dog training?

Koter Boters loves duke n koty asked:

This morning I saw Victoria Stillwell on Martha and she told Martha to yell in a high pitched voice and the dog will look at you and follow.

So as I was crating my dogs Duke wanted to play and jump on me so I did what she said and he looked at me and stopped.

i am looking to find out if any training facility can legally train my dog to be a service dog. i have been trying to read through some of the ADA’s documents on the training of service dogs but have not found anything that specificially states that service dogs can be trained by any facility. i was wondering if anyone had any experience with this and if they could point me to the correct documents to help me solve my issue. Thanks!

Is a dog training class a good option here?

I have a male dog who is a mix between a brussels griffon and a mini poodle. I have tried several methods of walking him. I have tried a harness, without a harness, stopping and then once he stops moving going (he knows to stop, but starts to pull again.), keeping him at arms length, giving him treats when he walks nice, praising him. He still pulls and once on his leash will not listen to anything for the life of him.
Also, he listen to me very welll, but he doesn’t listen to anyone else. Sometimes he will go to sit on or lay by my husband and when he goes to move the dog will growl and snap at him. He snapped at my family and friends too. He attacks the cat when he tries to get close to me. I then stand up, say NO and point so he knows to go into his kennel, which he does, but he only listens to me. We are trying to start a family and there is no way that he is going to snap at a baby. Would taking him to classes be a good idea? Generally how much are classes also. Thank you.
Thank you for the suggestion, but I have tried the squirt bottle and he wasn’t affected by it at all. He actually comes over to it and licks it after you put it down.

It works better for the cat though.

Anyone have any suggestions for a good professional-quality dog training forum? Not that I have a dog that needs training, but I do training and would like a forum to talk with others who do as well

How do you train a dog to come on a long training lead (50ft)?

Abbie asked:

My dog runs to other dogs whenever he is let off the lead without taking any notice of you calling him so i bought a 50ft training lead but am unsure how to use it effectively. He doesn’t seem interested in food or toys at all if there are other dogs. Any tips?

Can a dog be trained for both search/rescue training and cadaver location?

radiant_innerlight asked:

We have very limited search and rescue dog resources in my area and I was wondering if a tracking dog has to be trained in either live scent tracking or cadaver tracking. Ideally I would like, if possible, to train my dog for both.

Does anyone know where you can take a dog training course specializing in K9 or Schutzhund training?

I planned to go to Triple Crown but you have to go through like three steps to get to the K9 training. I have some experience already, do they count that?? Also this is geared toward after I complete police officer training…
